Pokhara, Gandaki Province — A preliminary interaction program aimed at establishing a center for the study and research of Buddhist heritage and culture in Gandaki Province was recently held in Pokhara. The event brought together representatives from Buddhist organizations and government agencies, laying the groundwork for a collaborative effort. The active engagement and commitment shown by the stakeholders have been truly encouraging. We are optimistic that this initiative will soon take a tangible shape.

Lumbini Buddhist University (LBU) has initiated a forward-looking plan to set up research centers across all provinces of Nepal. This initiative is designed to explore and strengthen the cultural, spiritual, and philosophical connections between the Himalaya, Hill, and Terai regions, while promoting sustainable development through Buddhist education.
From Lumbini—the birthplace of the Buddha—to the diverse landscapes where his teachings continue to be practiced, LBU aims to study, analyze, and promote the enduring influence of Buddhist philosophy. As part of this vision, the university is preparing to organize a special workshop in collaboration with Gandaki Province stakeholders. The workshop will focus on fostering provincial participation and designing academic programs rooted in peace education.

In line with this effort, LBU is also developing practical, life-oriented academic programs in Buddhist studies. These include interdisciplinary subjects such as law, tourism and hospitality management, management integrated with spirituality, ethics and conduct, and international relations and diplomacy. The aim is to prepare students who can actively contribute to global peace, intercultural understanding, and inclusive development.

With a strong focus on building national and international partnerships, LBU is moving forward with a long-term commitment to promoting world peace. The university envisions Lumbini as a global hub for spirituality, peace, and education—bringing Buddha’s teachings to the forefront of contemporary learning and global discourse.
